Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons Adds IntraLase Blade-Free LASIK

New Method Allows Greater Precision and Wider Availability in LASIK Procedures

KENT, OH (May 16, 2007) – Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons, a leading center for comprehensive eye care and surgery, has recently added the IntraLase Blade-Free LASIK method to the services they offer patients. This new method uses tiny pulses of laser light in place of the blade used in traditional LASIK, offering patients a level of precision not possible with a metal blade.

“IntraLase makes the LASIK procedure much less intimidating to patients by eliminating the need for a blade,” said Dr. John Hahn, Clinical Director of Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons. “The IntraLase procedure is also more customizable to each patient’s individual needs, and offers greater precision than traditional LASIK.”

Like traditional LASIK, IntraLase reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. All-laser IntraLase can be a good option for patients whose corneas are too thin for traditional LASIK.

The IntraLase laser uses an infrared light beam to prepare the corneal flap that is folded back to allow the VISX excimer laser to reshape the cornea. The treatment is programmed into the laser and carried out under the surgeon’s close supervision. After the surgery, recovery is no more difficult than recovery from traditional LASIK. In fact, sometimes recovery is even easier, since the corneal flap is created without the use of a blade.

For 25 years, Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons has been recognized as a leading center for comprehensive eye care and surgery. They have offices in Kent and Stow. For more information, call 330-678-0201 or visit www.NEOhioEyes.com.

Dr. William Rudy Returns to Kent to Join Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons

From Kent Roosevelt High School to the other side of the county in the state of Washington, Dr. William Rudy’s career as an optometrist has taken him many miles as he now returns to Kent to join Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons.

Dr. Rudy’s extensive background in refractive surgery, laser vision correction and multi-focal intraocular lens implantation procedures has already helped several patients at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons.

“We’re delighted to have an experienced optometrist with such a strong refractive background as Dr. Rudy,” said Dr. Lawrence Lohman, founder and Medical Director of Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons. “And the fact that he grew up here makes it all the better.”

A graduate of Kent Roosevelt, Dr. Rudy attended Kent State University while he was still in high school. He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University College of Optometry before doing his postdoctoral residency in Ocular Disease at the Cleveland Wade Park Veterans Administration Medical Center, working in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University ophthalmology residents. After completing his residency, Dr. Rudy moved to the west coast to work in private practice specializing in glaucoma, cataract and serving elderly patients several years. He returned to the Midwest in 2001, working in Toledo and Sandusky in a group practice.

“Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons offers me a unique opportunity to use my experience in both the refractive care and clinical care,” explained Dr. Rudy. “NEOES is well known for their caring personalized attention to each patient. I’m very excited to be part of this outstanding practice.”
